[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 45 – year – old Logger of Timehri, East Bank Demerara was today remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan for the offence of murder.

Rajesh Roopnarine was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on December 06 at 14 Miles Mabura, Upper Demerara River, he murdered David Campbell.

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones did not reveal the particulars of the charge. The accused was represented by Attorney-at-law, Peter Hugh, who told the Court that Roopnarine is a single father of two. The matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Court for December 17.

According to reports, Campbell, a Chainsaw Operator, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) last Saturday, seven days after he was reportedly set alight in a mining camp.

Campbell of Old Road, Timehri, sustained third degree burns about his body. iNews understands that three persons managed to escape the fire, but Campbell was trapped in his hammock in the mining camp.

The dead man has been working with the family for the past 10 years and he leaves to mourn his two daughters.
