Local Gov’t procures $38M in garbage bins for City Hall, NDCs

DSC05007Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in Region 4 along with City Hall received a quantity of bins from the Ministry of Local Government to improve their garbage collection services.

The Ministry distributed 825 bins to the Georgetown municipality and 15 NDCs in the Region.

Of the 825 bins, 458 will be handed over to the NDC’s directly and the remaining 367 will be placed at public institutions such as schools, health centers, markets and recreational areas.

The bins were procured from English Company Unit Exports at a cost of $38M. Minister within the Local Government Ministry Norman Whittaker said the NDCs must get the people to use these facilities while ensuring that they are kept secured.

Additionally, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry Collin Croal explained that four compactor trucks will be procured at a cost of $124M to service the NDCs until they acquire private contractors to collect their waste. [Akash Ramlackhan]
