[www.inewsguyana.com] –Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana Professor Jacob Opadeyi has once again shown a complete lack of interest towards the criticism about his modus operandi by the University of Guyana Workers Union (UGWU) and the University of Guyana Senior Staff Association (UGSSA).

Just after two weeks back on the job, the UG unions held a meeting after what they deemed a “farcical” negotiation between the UG administraton and the unions.

The union’s anger was fuelled by the absence of Professor Opadeyi and the fact that the University’s negotiating team made no counter proposal.

At a subsequent union meeting, it was deliberated whether the unions would proceed with a motion of no-confidence against the Vice Chancellor or whether they would proceed on further industrial action.

However, it was decided that after the next meeting a decision would be made consequent to how that meeting would be handled on the part of UG’s negotiators which is principally made up of Deputy Vice Chancellors.

When iNews contacted Professor Opadeyi on Monday morning, he explained that he was out of the country at the time of the last meeting hence he was unable to attend.

He said “not that I did not attend, I couldn’t attend.”

When asked about the looming no confidence motion, the Professor was flat-out unfettered saying “let them make their call.”

When asked about his attendance at future negotiating meetings, Opadeyi affirmed that he will be present at those events.
