[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 24 – year-old man of Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg was today (Tuesday, October 14) sentenced to three years imprisonment for break and enter and larceny committed on a Lawyer’s office.

Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry, Gary Khanai pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that between October 11 and 12 at Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg, he broke and entered the office of Attorney-at-Law, Emily Dotson and stole two Dell Computer, one toilet set, one wheel borrow, two voltage stabilizer and one web camera, together valued $373,000.

The Court heard that on the day in question around 15:00 hrs, the virtual complainant (VC) secured her office by the means provided.

However, the following day the convict was seen walking out of the said office with the articles mentioned in the charge. He was caught by public spirited citizens and the Police was summoned.

Khanai told the Court that he was beaten by residents and subsequently taken to the hospital in an unconscious state.

He said that he did not break and enter but was paid $500 to push out something on a wheel borrow, since fetching load is what he does for livelihood. He blurted that he did not break in the office but two others did.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant informed the Court that he was convicted for a similar offence.
