[www.inewsguyana.com]Troy Rampergass, 25, a labourer of Grove, East Bank Demerara was granted $100,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry today, after he was charged with the offence of break and enter.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that between November 17 and 18, 2013, at Samatha Point Grove, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Adrian Profitt and stole therein one flat screen television valued $40,000.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant said the defendant and virtual complainant (VC) are living in the same building but in different apartments. He said on November 17, around 21:20 hrs, the VC secured his apartment and went to bed. He reported the matter to the police after he woke up around 03:00 hrs the following morning and discovered his television set missing.

He added that on November 19, 2013, Profitt caught the defendant trying to open his apartment door and they had a confrontation.

The Prosecutor said during investigations the defendant was questioned by the police and promised to replace the television. Grant objected to bail, citing the nature and gravity of the offence and the fact that the defendant was evading the police since November last and he was only apprehended by the police last Sunday.

The objection was overruled and the matter was transferred to Providence Court for February 7.
