‘Known character’ crashes car in bid to escape from police, firearm found inside

Two men are now in the custody after a gun was found in a motorcar which they crashed while attempting to escape from Police ranks in the Charlestown, Georgetown area on Thursday morning.

According to a statement from the Police, the duo, a 38-year-old of West Ruimveldt and a 20-year-old, employed Campbellville Housing Scheme resident were apprehended at about 11:30h.

The ranks were reportedly on patrol in Charlestown when they observed a silver premio, with registration number PWW 149, reportedly being driven by what the police described as a ‘known character’.

As such, while in the vicinity of Russel and Howes Streets, the ranks signalled for the car to stop however, the driver reportedly accelerated and ended up crashing into a lamp post.

The men then exited the vehicle and were apprehended.

A search of the vehicle saw a .38 Smith and Wesson Revolver being recovered along with a live round of ammunition.

According to the Police, the men were escorted to the Police Station where they are assisting with investigations.
