Killing of suspected Bandit: Weapons recovered, one arrested; police on the hunt for accomplice

[www.inewsguyana.com]The police have recovered a .32 snub-nose revolver and a 9mm. pistol at the scene of the crime, where a suspected bandit was shot and killed by law enforcement officers on Friday October 18.

According to police information, Police ranks are scouring the backlands of Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara in search of the man who managed to escape.

A police statement explained that at about 13:30h, mini-bus driver Veerapen Jebode, 58 years, of Good Faith, Mahaicony, returned home and found that his home had been broken into.

According to the Police Information Office, Police ranks from Mahaicony Police Station responded to the report and during the investigations came under fire from two men who were in the area.

The police returned fire and one of the men was fatally shot, while the other escaped into the backlands. The police also recovered a bag containing a pair of binoculars, a cell phone and a cap at the crime scene.

It was noted that further investigations led to the arrest of a male suspect, while he was attempting to board a mini-bus.
