A Kaneville Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara landlord was on Wednesday morning reportedly shot by his 32-year-old tenant following an argument over the payment of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) bill.

The victim has been identified as Andrew Doris, a 47-year-old Medic.

Based on information received, the shooting occurred at about 09:00hrs.

INews was told that Doris owns a two storey concrete house and he rented the south eastern half of the lower flat to the suspect, while he occupies the north eastern half.

On Wednesday, the victim told police that he went to the tenant’s apartment and inquired about the bill’s payment.

However, the Medic claims that he and his tenant had an exchange of words, which resulted in the suspect attempting to lock the apartment door in his face.

After failing to do so, because the 47-year-old landlord was holding on to the door, the 32-year-old suspect allegedly ran into his room and returned with a silver and black handgun.

He reportedly discharged two rounds in the air and three at Doris, resulting in the elderly man being injured to his left thigh and right knee.

When the landlord fell to the ground, the suspect reportedly rode out of the yard on his bicycle and made good his escape.

Doris’ sought medical attention at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a stable condition.

A search has been launched for the suspect.

Investigations are continuing.
