‘Junkie’ stumbles on corpse while searching for bottles in trench

www.inewsguyana.com] – The body of an elderly man of East Indian decent was around 15:30hrs on Tuesday afternoon (March 4) found in a trench along Mandela Avenue, Georgetown in the vicinity of John Fernandes terminal. 

According to reports, a man who is a well-known ‘junkie’ in the area was searching for bottles in the trench when he felt the man’s foot. He alerted residents rushed to the scene where the body was floating and who subsequently called the police.

According to a Police Officer at the scene, the body bore no marks of violence and remains unidentified even as it was taken to a city morgue.

A small group of persons recalled seeing the man late Monday night, March 3 at shop imbibing, mere yards from where the body was discovered.

There was high speculation that he may have been drunk and drowned.

An investigation is underway.
