Jamaican national busted with cocaine at CJIA remanded

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Jamaican hairdresser was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a drug trafficking charge.

Akeisha Anderson, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge on Wednesday, February 11 which stated that on February 08 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, East Bank Demerara she had in her possession 606 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Oswald Massiah told the Court that the defendant arrived in Guyana on January 28 last and was was scheduled to leave Guyana on February 08 with Fly Jamaica flight OJ152 destined for Jamaica.

On the day in question, she was observed by a CANU officer acting in a suspicious manner and a subsequent search was carried out on her person when the cocaine was found.

Representing the defendant was Attorney – at – Law, Mark Conway who requested bail in a reasonable sum for his client stating that she is a diabetic.

Bail was however refused and the matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for February 13.
