The Ministry of Education clarifies that the incident at Covent Garden Secondary School today, January 20, 2026, was limited to a minor electrical spark.
The spark was immediately resolved by an on-site electrician. The Guyana Fire Service responded shortly after, conducting a thorough inspection, which confirmed the safety of the site.
No injuries were sustained, and no damage was caused to the building. Social media reports suggesting a fire occurred are false and misleading.
