Almost three weeks after allegedly being doused with a pot of hot water by his niece in Linden, a 56-year-old security guard on Monday last succumbed to his injuries, while police are said to be hunting his attacker.

Dead is Hilbert Scott of Half Mile, Wismar, Linden.

Based on information reaching this publication, Scott and his niece- identified as 42-year-old Frances Harlequin resided at the same address, in the same house, but in two different apartments.

She is also alleged to be of unsound mind.

INews understands that on June 16, 2018, at about 09:30hrs, Harlequin reportedly lit a “coal pot” in her apartment and the smoke emanating from it began to affect Scott’s breathing.

As such, the man reportedly went over to the suspect’s apartment to request that she address the problem. However, the woman reportedly became annoyed and threw a pot of hot water, which was on the “coal pot”, on Scott.

The elderly man immediately reported the matter to the Wismar Police Station, and he was subsequently escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex to be treated for his burns, before being discharged.

This online publication understands that shortly after the victim made his police report, Harlequin visited the police station and reported that Scott physically abused her, and as such, she threw hot water on him.

She was reportedly sent to seek medical attention. However, the woman never returned to the Police Station.

To this end, the following day, she was arrested and placed on self-bail two days later, while being informed that she was to appear in court on June 25, 2018. However, she never appeared and was charged with the offence of “causing grievous bodily harm with intent” in abstentia.

Meanwhile, on June 21, 2018, Scott began feeling unwell and was subsequently admitted to the Linden Hospital Complex as an infection had taken over his burn wounds.

The victim’s condition allegedly worsened on Monday last, he died while being a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.

A post mortem examination conducted on Wednesday morning on Scott’s body by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, has disclosed that the security guard died as a result of Generalise Sepsis ‘Septic’.

“The deceased was HIV positive and the hot water which was thrown onto him caused his bodily organs to become infected,” the report said.

Police are presently hunting Harlequin who is known to roam the streets of the Wismar, Linden village.

Investigations are ongoing.
