[www.inewsguyana.com] – President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Nigel Hinds has expressed optimism for the Guyana National squads which are currently preparing for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships set for July in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

“This year we want to make the final four, hopefully the men will get into the final four… last year we brought fifth and we had some good players and some are expected to be back with us along with some new additions.

“For the women Mariam McKenzie will be with us and she is really good, so we are hoping for a final four sport for both teams and really just look to build on what we have,” Hinds said.

He explained that preparation for the event has been going well as both teams aim to make an impact at the championships.

“We are training three times a week and we are looking to step up the pace, by month end we are hoping to increase the amount of days we train.

“We have a good foundation from our previous to series and we have some international players set to come in an join the team… for the women awe have been focusing on fitness and its really going well with McKenzie set to join the squad,” Hinds related.

Hinds also informed that they are aiming to create a better environment for their players so that they can focus on basketball and make the final four.
