High Court grants bail to duo accused of narco – trafficking

DSC04975A couple who was remanded to prison last Friday by Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry was today granted bail each at $100,000 when they appeared in the High Court.

The duo applied for bail in the High Court, after they were remanded by the Beharry.

Thirty – two – year old Joseph Barton of 17 Broad Street Georgetown and his 18 – year – old common law wife Denise Venlong made their first court appearance on July 19 before the Chief Magistrate charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

According to reports ranks from the Guyana Police Force Narcotics Branch acting on information conducted a search on the house occupied by both accused when they discovered 30 grams of the illegal substance concealed in a milk tin. Both accused will reappear in court on August 9. [Royan Abrams]
