Guyana gets US$8.2M grant from China

The Government of Guyana today signed an $US8.2M agreement with their Chinese Counterpart. The money comes in the form of a grant will be used for various projects Guyana wishes to implement.

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh used the occasion to laud the cooperation between China and Guyana while noting that this country remains open to investors from across the globe once they comply with the laws.

China’s Ambassador to Guyana Limin Xiang who spoke via an interpreter said the Chinese Government has always supported Guyana in its endeavours.

He said over the years China has provided Guyana with economic assistance and concessional loans aimed at promoting economic and social development.

Guyana was the first Caribbean country to formally establish diplomatic ties with China. [Akash Ramlackhan]
