Gunmen storm home of Chinese business couple rob them of valuables, vehicle

A Chinese couple were on Monday evening beaten and robbed of a quantity of cash, valuables and their Toyota Pickup, BSS 5412 after six armed men stormed their Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara home.

The victims have been identified as Rong Yan Yao, 41, a businesswoman and Rong Jie King, 40, a businessman, both of Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara.

According to information received, the incident took place at around 21:40hrs.

The victims were reportedly inside of their two storey concrete home, unaware that they had left the southern access door to the lower flat opened.

As such, six men entered the house, held them at gunpoint and demanded that they turn over their cash and jewellery.

The suspects then reportedly proceeded to beat the duo about their heads with their handguns, before relieving them of a quantity of gold and silver jewellery, an undisclosed sum of cash, and their vehicle, among other things.

The bandits then escaped – in the duo’s car- heading in a western direction.

The couple were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, treated and subsequently sent away.

An investigation has been launched.
