President of the Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) Colin Bynoe said the time has come for students to face the full brunt of the law for violence committed against teachers.
Speaking a Press Conference yesterday, Bynoe pointed out that globally and in definitely in the Caribbean, students are imprisoned for violence against teachers.
In this regard he noted that the GTU will strongly advocate for this to be implemented in Guyana. Bynoe also called on teachers to remain united against violent students and to assist each other in such circumstances.
Meanwhile the GTU’s President also updated the media on the condition of the teacher who was assaulted earlier this year in Linden. According to him, the teacher has not yet been cleared medically to resume duties. [Akash Ramlackhan]
