[www.inewsguyana.com] – As the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GTT) Company opened its 2nd flagship store on December 12, Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin stressed the importance of the Information Communication Technology Sector (ICT).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, at the Fogarty’s Building on Robb and Water Streets, the Minister congratulated the entity for showing significant confidence in the local economy.

“You don’t open a mega store if there is no potential, so I am very encouraged by this particular investment… The company has been a solid and large investor for 24 years, and today it is here to do more,” he said.

Minister Gaskin described the sector as crucial, as he pointed to a recent statement made by President David Granger, identifying information as one of the four pillars upon which his vision for the development of Guyana’s economy will be constructed.

“Any investment in the ICT sector is well aligned with the direction that the government wants to proceed in. The rebranding from GT&T to GTT+ is also coming at a time when the country is taking a new approach, a fresh approach to its development and the new brand I believe integrates into that fresh approach.”

Meanwhile GTT’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd pointed out that the company is pleased to invest in the country’s economy. He said the company wants to live by three elements which he enumerated as “we exceed expectations and keep our promises, we’re easy to do business with and we expeditiously get things done right the first time.” [Extracted and modified from GINA]
