GTI Lecturer charged with wounding reputed wife

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 25 – year – old Lecturer attached to the Government Technical Institute (GTI), appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman on November 18, charged with the offense of unlawfully wounding his reputed wife, causing actual grievous bodily harm.

John Russell of South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown was today placed on $200,000 bail after he pleaded not guilty to the offense.

It is alleged that on November 15, 2015 at South Ruimveldt Park, he abused Joy Warrel. His lawyer, in his bail application, informed the court that Russell is not a flight risk and has a one – year – old baby with the complainant.

The court heard that on the day in question, the woman asked Russell for money to travel home, when he became annoyed, punched her to the left side of the face, causing serious injuries to her left eye.

The woman received some seven stitches. Bail was granted and he was ordered to stay away from the complainant; he is expected to re-appear in court on December 02.
