[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sherwin Scipio of Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, accused of break and enter and larceny was today remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

The 33 – year – old defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, particulars of which alleged that on May 25 at Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Deon Burnette and stole $50,000 cash.

Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones said the virtual complainant (VC) knew the defendant from before and on the day in question, he saw the defendant in his home. The victim said the defendant pelted Scipio with a pepper bottle and the defendant in return took a knife and wounded Burnette to his arm and made good his escape.

Scipio admitted that he was wrong to enter the VC’s yard but strongly denied stealing anything. He said the two of them had a fight after Burnette accused him of breaking and entering his home.

The Prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the possibility exists that he will face another charge. Bail was refused and the case was transferred to Providence Magistrate’s Court for June 9.
