[www.inewsguyana.com] – The electrocution of 8 – year – old Joshua Regis of Enterprise Primary School, East Coast Demerara caused by illegal ‘live’ electrical wires channeled through a waterway, has once more highlighted the danger to life and limb that this practice poses.

This is according to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) in a statement on Thursday (January 9).

The power company, in extending its condolences to the family of the deceased, lamented the fact of the increasing practice of electricity theft and urged members of the public to act responsibly in reporting any instance of this illegal activity.

The prevalence of illegal connections, often done in collusion with persons purporting to be GPL staff, is the single biggest problem faced by GPL, the statement explained, adding that both in terms of revenue lost, overloading the power lines and the possible loss of lives and damage to property.

Reports on electricity theft can be made to HOTLINE 592-225-5251. For more details on how to easily access legal electricity supply call 592-226-2606 or visit the GPL website.
