Gold Champion Fortune pays Sport Minster a courtesy call

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Sprinter Alisha Fortune on Monday made a courtesy call to Minster of Sport Dr Frank Anthony after she won three gold medals at the North, Central America Masters World Championships last month in Costa Rica.

Fortune who dominated the 35-39 age category winning three gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 metres was elated about her achievements.

“The thing for me is to put Guyana on the map and it brings a joy to us and it also encourages the youth to keep going on, I have learnt a lot of things that I will be able to teach the youths,” she said.

“With the synthetic track, we are eager and awaiting anxiously to use it but I am grateful to be here,” Fortune stated.

 Anthony, in the presence of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sport Alfred King as well Secretary of the Guyana Masters Athletics Association (GMAA) Silas Brummel congratulated Fortune.

“I would like to congratulate you for your achievement personally and for Guyana.”

“You have demonstrated that you are never too old to dedicate your energy to your field and we know of your passion for athletics and we are entirely pleased,” Anthony noted.

In addition, the Minister who expressed his pleasure with the resuscitation of the masters association also revealed the Ministry is in the process of purchasing all equipment for the Leonora Synthetic track in an effort to make the facility, one of high international standard.
