Extractive[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment has announced that a Country Page for Guyana has been launched on the website of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) International Secretariat at the following link: www.eiti.org/guyana.

According to a media release from the Ministry, the creation of the page was facilitated through a request of the Government of Guyana by the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud.

It was noted that the Guyana Country Page will be updated regularly by the EITI Internal Secretariat on the progress of its work towards application for candidacy.

Currently, Guyana is undergoing a scoping study which will determine its readiness for the principles and standards of the EITI, the media released added.

Further, work is being undertaken by Moore Stephens International whose assignment consists of two parts: a detailed study to evaluate Guyana’s extractive industries and to highlight opportunities and challenges of EITI implementation; dissemination of results and capacity building. The scoping study is expected to be completed by the middle of February 2015.

Additionally, Guyana is set to be represented in Port-of-Spain in January 2015 at the upcoming Annual Energy Conference hosted by the Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago. The Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference is the premier Energy Conference in the Caribbean and promotes vigorous debate and discussion among leaders of industry, Government and academia.

Additional information on Guyana’s EITI responsibilities can be found on the website of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment at the following link: www.nre.gov.gy.
