The call by the staff of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission [GGMC] has been heard and as such, the Commission will get the opportunity to celebrate their 34th anniversary tomorrow, Wednesday July 31 at the Princess Hotel.

This is as a result of a meeting held today between the GGMC and the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment.

The staff of the Commission picketed in front of the Ministry yesterday, claiming that they were asked to cancel their anniversary celebrations.

However, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Joslyn Mc Kenzie told iNews this afternoon that the Commission was never asked to cancel their plans, but was simply requested to consider having their celebrations as part of the Mining Week Activities later next month instead of on the date of the anniversary.

According to Mc Kenzie, tomorrow’s celebrations will see pre – emancipation activities and an award ceremony, slated to commence at 1:30pm.
