Twenty – six year old Leonard Stephen of 294 West Ruimveldt Georgetown appeared before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan charged with possession of narcotics.
He pleaded guilty to the charge. According to the police prosecutor on July 2 at about 20:00h, police officers were on patrol when the defendant was seen acting in a suspicious manner.
The prosecutor said that the police stopped and searched the accused and the item was found concealed in a plastic bag in his hand. When the officers checked the plastic bag they found leaves seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
According to the prosecutor, the illegal item was weighed and amounted to 1 gram. Stephen in his defense told the court that the cannabis was given to him.
He was fined $15,000 and two months community service at the Brickdam police station. [Royan Abrams]
