court[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Private Allister Woolford was yesterday (Wednesday, November 26),  remanded by Magistrate Ann McLennan on a discharging a loaded firearm charge.

The 20-year-old defendant of 100 Garnett Street, Newtown Kitty was not required to plead to the indictable offence which alleged that on November 21 at Garnett Street he discharged a loaded firearm with intent to murder Devon Howell.

Police Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru opposed bail; citing the seriousness, prevalence and penalty of the offence. He added that the defendant may pose as a flight risk and it is a likelihood that should bail be granted he may not return for his trial.

He further objected that the Virtual Complainant (VC) is known to the defendant and if granted bail Court and complainant is known to the defendant and if granted bail he may tamper with the witness.

The defendant was represented by Attorney-at-Law Hughley Griffith.  He requested reasonable bail on the grounds that his client does not posed as a flight risk.

Bail was refused and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for December 2.
