An 18-year-old member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) was during the wee hours of Saturday morning gun-butted and robbed of his valuables around 01:30h as he was making his way from a birthday party in Kuru-Kururu on the Soesdyke Linden Highway.

The teen, Gershon Sproston of Kuru-Kururu was reportedly returning home when he was attacked by a lone gun man from behind, who reportedly struck him several times to his head with a gun before carting off with two of his cellular phones valued at $50,000.

A report was later made to the Kuru-Kururu Police Outpost where investigations are said to be ongoing.

The teenager was later accompanied to Diamond Diagnostic Centre by his mother, Phyllis Sproston where he was treated and sent away.

Sproston’s twin brothers, Judah and Jahrael related to this publication that he was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital since his head was swelling and he was experiencing pain.

Just last week, Glen Ramdass was attacked by two gun men at his Lot 33 Kuru-Kururu home, who escaped with nothing after the man managed to raise an alarm.

Earlier this month, at about 04:30h, the lifeless body of 46-year-old legal clerk Gregory Frank, also called “Wayne”, was found lying face down in a pool of blood in the sitting room of his home at Lot 686 Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.

The man was suspected to have been killed during a robbery.

A post-mortem examination later performed on the body of Frank determined that the man died as a result of asphyxiation due to compression injury to the neck compounded by blunt trauma to the head.

Residents of Kuru Kururu have since expressed concerns with the upsurgence of crime in the area and have made calls for more frequent Police patrols in the evening.
