Hours after being shot by two men on pedal cycles, a West Bank Demerara (WBD) man succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Wayne Jason Wharton, 24, of lot 277 Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara, was on Wednesday evening shot to his back by the two men during an apparent robbery at West Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Based on information gathered, the young man was standing a short distance from his mother’s home when he was attacked by the two armed men. They reportedly relieved him of a gold chain he was wearing at the time.
After being shot, he was picked up and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died shortly after midnight. Two men were subsequently arrested and are being questioned in connection with the crime.
