Friendship woman fished out of canal, relatives suspect murder

[www.inewsguyana.com] – The body of a woman was fished out from the Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara canal where it is believed to have been lying for days.

Dead is 37-year-old Simone Terries Ann Russell of 156 Friendship, East Coast Demerara. The body was discovered around mid-day on Tuesday October 15 by residents in the area who were alerted by two dogs.

According to the dead woman’s mother, Cheryl Russell she last saw her daughter on Friday night (October 11) at approximately 23:00hrs, other persons in the area also claimed that they last saw the woman on Friday too.

Ms. Russell told iNews that her daughter was of an unsound mind and was a drug addict. According to the woman, on Friday she encouraged her daughter to seek medical attention.

She further stated that her daughter never worked and would travel to Suriname and French Guiana from time to time but has not done so recently.

The distraught mother said that she has reason to believe that her daughter was murdered and placed in the canal.

According to her, there was a rope around her daughter’s neck along with marks of violence about the already swollen body.

The dead woman leaves to mourn an 11-year-old daughter. The police are conducting investigations into the matter.
