Foreign experts should be recruited to ‘beef up’ Police Leadership – iNews Poll

Pie  chart[www.inewsguyana.com]At a time when the country’s Home Affairs Minister claims that he is no expert on security issues, the Guyanese populace believe that the time is now for foreign experts to be brought in to beef up the leadership of the Police Force.

Following a poll conducted by iNews: Is it time that foreign experts be brought in to beef up the Guyana Police Service leadership?, the majority of persons voted in favour: 93 percent said yes, a mere six percent said no and 1 percent were undecided.

Only last week, the Police Force officially launched its 27 member SWAT Unit, while the Police reported that murders in Guyana have increased by 70 percent with some 17 being recorded at the end of January 2014.

When compared to the same period last year, there were only 10 murders; of the 17 killings during January 2014, four were of the disorderly type, three were committed during armed robberies, and three were domestic related, while the other 7 are so far undetermined.

Meanwhile, the overall statistics in relation serious crimes for January 2014 have seen a seven percent increase when compared to the same period in 2013.
