Arjune Mohabir, 22, of Kilcoy Squatting Area, Corentyne was this morning charged for killing 22-year-old John Alexander Yap, also of Kilcoy Village on September 15.

Mohabir appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court and was not required to plead.

He was granted bail in the sum of $250,000.

The matter was adjourned for tomorrow at the Albion Magistrate Court.

It had been reported that Yap and Mohabir were involved in an argument outside of a Superbet outlet at Kilcoy Village which resulted in Mohabir stabbing Yap to the chest.

It was also reported that it was Yap who also had the knife and attacked Mohabir, injuring him in the process.

Mohabir reportedly pulled the knife away from Yap, and inflected the fatal wound.

The dead man’s wife, Mineisha Chandralall called ‘Anjali’ recalled that two weeks prior to the incident, the suspect and her husband had an argument over the suspect’s girlfriend.

The suspect alleged that Yap was too friendly with his girlfriend. Yap was a father of two young children.
