[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Fish Vendor of Meadow Bank, East Bank of Demerara, was yesterday charged with the offence of robbery under arms and remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry.

Othello Duncan pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on July 25, 2013 at Meadow Bank Wharf, being armed with a gun, he robbed Hayman Handit of $316,000 in cash.

Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant, told the court that on the day in question around 10:10 hrs the virtual complainant (VC) was at Meadow Bank Wharf when the defendant placed the firearm to the victim’s head and demanded cash.

Grant opposed bail on the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence and the fact that an alleged weapon was used.

Grant said that the defendant has been evading the Police for a while but was finally apprehended by a passing police patrol.

The matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman, who adjourned it until November 27.
