[www.inewsguyana.com] – Several acres of land at Colidgen, East Coast Demerara are covered in thick smoke and spreading fire which started about half an hour ago.

IMG_20140406_184152Persons in the area told iNews that the fire started naturally late Sunday afternoon (April 06).

The fire is raging the empty lots where no houses are located but threatens utility poles.

The plot of land is usually utilized by persons in the area to graze animals but belongs to the Central Housing and Planning Authority.

The fire at the location is not the first as the area is prone to fires starting as a result of the dry grass and intense heat.

At the moment, one fire tender from the City has responded to the blaze and effectively bringing the fire under control.

Meanwhile, the thick smoke has been affecting the free flow of traffic.
