[www.inewsguyana.com] – A fire of unknown origin on Saturday night (January 17) completely destroyed a house in Middle Street, Pouderoyen West Bank Demerara.

iNews understands that firefighters are battling to save other houses under threat. Information reaching this news entity stated that the burned house had a mechanic shop at the lower flat while a man identified as ‘Joe’ known as ‘Mice’ lived in the upper flat.

Eyewitnesses told iNews that Joe managed to escape from the burning building. Reports indicate that the fire started sometime around 21:30 hrs and that the building did not have any electricity.

Joe reportedly told neighbours that he did not leave anything “lighting” in the house and has no idea as to what may have caused the fire. Firefighters from Georgetown arrived at the scene some half hour after the fire started, while those at the Leonora, West Coast Demerara fire station were the last to arrive.
