Suklall Rice Industry along with his family is distraught after fire destroyed a bond containing millions in goods and equipment during the dark hours of Thursday morning.

Preamwattie Baliram aka “Linda” told iNews that her family was awaken around 2am by a screaming neighbor who informed her that the bond which is located in the same yard with her home was on fire.

She said despite quick action by her five children and husband, Deonarine Sukhall to save the bond, everything was eventually lost in the blaze.

“We couldn’t save anything in the bond, the rice badly burnt and the paddy too and it’s all soaked… I don’t know what to say we are here trying,” she added.

The family estimates their losses to be between $45 to $50 million.

She said she is satisfied with the fire service’s response but noted that the incident is a big setback for the family business.

The grieving woman says she has no idea how the fire started. Efforts to secure an official comment from the Guyana Fire Service proved futile.
