Fire destroys $2M Essequibo House, woman suffers first degree burns

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA[www.inewsguyana.com] – Fifty – one – year – old woman Tameshwarie Narharry of Zorg Market Road on the Essequibo Coast is battling for her life in the Georgetown Public Hospital after suffering first degree burns in a fire that is suspected to have started by her alleged lover, Patrick Seepaul.

According to reports, the woman was asleep in the front bedroom of the concrete and wooden building she was renting when the fire started at around 5:00h on Wednesday, October 23.

Reports indicate that Narharry’s 15 – year – old daughter was awoken by her mother’s scream. According to the teen, when she ran out from her room she saw her mother on fire. She raised an alarm and residents rendered their assistance.

According to reports, the man whom the woman is living with had purchased gasoline earlyTuesday evening and allegedly doused the front room and around the building with the highly flammable substance before setting the front room ablaze where the woman was sleeping.

Residents noted that when the fire started, the man escaped on a motorcycle. He has not been seen since. Police and the Fire Service are currently investigating the incident. [Rajendra Prabhulall]
