Father of two sentenced to 58 months in prison for firearm, ammo possession

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – three – year old Terry Phillip of Tucville, Georgetown was sentenced to 58 months imprisonment together with an $180,000 fine for possession of firearm and ammunition.

TerryThe penalty was inflicted on him for having on September 16, 2013 at Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, one .38 special Taurus revolver with three matching rounds in his possession, without being the holder of a firearm license.

The defendant was represented by Attorney – at – Law Melville Duke, who mitigated that his client is a vendor and father of two with no prior convictions.

The trial was conducted before Magistrate Judy Latchman and leading the prosecution was Police Sergeant Vishnu Hunt.

Magistrate Latchman considered the mitigating factors which included the time he spent on remand. He was found guilty as charge for the offence and his sentence will run concurrently.
