[www.inewsguyana.com]Fifty – Three – year old Errol Keilar of Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan on a drug trafficking charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence, which alleged that on February 3 at Norton Street, he had 176 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones told the Court that Police acting on information went to the home of the defendant, indentified themselves and requested his permission to carry out a search on his premises.

The Court heard that the prohibited substance was found in the second bedroom of the top flat of the house, while in the presence of the accused.

Attorney – at – Law, Mark Waldron represented the accused and made a bail application, stating that his client is a truck driver and was given the responsibility by the owner who resides in the United States (U.S) to be the caretaker of the property.

According to the lawyer, the search was conducted in the absence of his client. Counsel said there are multiple occupants of the house and therefore there is no evidence against Keilar.

Magistrate McLennan said that no special reason was raised by Defence Counsel for bail to be granted and the father of one was remanded until February 17.
