Rice[www.inewsguyana.com] – Scores of rice farmers supported by officials of the Alliance For Change (AFC) on Friday (March 7) staged a protest in front of the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) office at Anna Regina for payments owed to them for their paddy sold to millers since the last crop which ended in October 2013.

The farmers aided with placards said the price being paid to them by millers for the current crop is very poor and cannot compensate for their hard labour.

Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture, Alli Baksh who was attending a meeting on the Anti – Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Bill in the Town Hall at Anna Regina while the protest was in progress said rice farmers have a right to protest and picket peacefully but they should remember what the rice industry was twenty years ago.
