Essequibo businessman remanded to prison for ganja, cocaine bust

An Essequibo Coast, Region Two businessman was on Monday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Ester Sam slapped with a narcotics trafficking charge.

Devon Fordyce of Lot 45 Dartmouth Village, Essequibo Coast is accused of trafficking 1539 grams of cannabis and 32 grams of cocaine.

He made his first appearance before magistrate Ester Sam at the Charity’s Magistrate Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Fordyce was arrested on August 19, 2017, after ranks conducted a search of his premises and unearthed 1539 grams of cannabis and 32 grams of cocaine in various sections of the house and in a chicken pen that was in the yard.

Police said the businessman, who they referred to as a trafficker, had been on their radar for quite some time now.
Fordyce will make his next court appearance on September 3.
