Escape plot by two Lusignan prisoners thwarted- Samuels

Two Lusignan prisoners are now being closely monitored after they attempted to escape the said Prison between August 2, 2018 and August 3, 2018.

According to the Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels, the two prisoners, who were committed to stand trial in the High Court for murder were caught during security inspections around 8:30h.

This publication was told that during security checks, one steel bar was discovered to be already cut with attempts being made to cut yet another for a successful escape by the prisoners.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has since been called in to investigate the matter since, according to Samuels “the prisoners should not have been in possession of cutting equipment and more so being allowed to actually cut.”

The hacksaw blade, that was discovered in the cell of the prisoners, which is suspected to be the cutting equipment used.

Moreover, he noted that the prison security has increased with additional layers of security being put in place.

Investigations are ongoing.
