See full statement from the Parliament Office:

The Parliament Office wishes to clarify several inaccuracies currently being reported by sections of the media.

Contrary to reports, no Member of Parliament has been prevented from entering the compound of the public buildings with their vehicle, nor has any action been taken to impede their access to the public buildings.

Also, contrary to what is being portrayed by some media houses, the Department of Public Information (DPI) has, with the approval of the Parliament, been the agency responsible for recording and streaming the proceedings of the National Assembly.

It should also be noted that the election of the Leader of the Opposition is an event conducted for non-governmental Members of Parliament. This process has never been open to the general public or the media.

Further, contrary to reports by accredited media houses, this morning’s meeting will not include any briefing of Members of Parliament. The Parliament Office conducts briefings for MPs at the commencement of new Parliaments, and such a briefing will be held, in collaboration with our international partners, in the near future.
