Elderly man is latest road fatality

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Pedestrians continue to be the leading victims of road fatalities with the latest being 69-year-old Omar Hussain.

According to reports, an investigation conducted by the police into the fatal accident indicates that the incident occurred at about 06:15hrs on Tuesday October 1 on the Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo.

Police in a release said that the driver of the motor car HC 664 was proceeding south along the road way, when Hussain ran into the right side front of the car and was struck down. He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. According to the police, Hussain has no fixed place of abode.

The driver of the motor car HC 664 is in police custody and charges will be laid shortly. So far, pedestrians have been the main road users affected with 24 such persons having lost their lives at the end of August 2013.

In addition, 11 motor cyclists, 10 pedal cyclists, 8 drivers of motor vehicles, 2 pillion riders and 12 passengers of motor vehicles all lost their lives.
