An elderly man is now in a stable condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he was beaten and shot to his right thigh when gunmen invaded his Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) home on Saturday.

65-year-old, Jaimayjai Singh of Lot 9, Friendship, EBD was home alone when the incident occurred.

The man was in the bottom flat of his two storey wooden house at around 06:45hrs when he was attacked by three armed bandits.

This publication understands that the man’s door was left opened when the bandits entered and demanded that he hand over his cash and jewellery.

Singh refused, which reportedly prompted the gunmen to beat him with their guns. He then handed over $200,000 to them but they demanded more money shooting him to his right thigh in the process. The bullet reportedly exited Singh’s left thigh.

The men then made good their escape. The victim was rushed to the Diamond Hospital and then to GPHC where his condition is said to be stable.
