[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana joins the rest of the world today (October 16) to celebrate the Muslim holiday – Eid-ul-Adha – the occasion when Allah appeared to Ibrahim in a dream and asked him to sacrifice his only son Isma’il as an act of obedience.

The festival remembers Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as a test of faith and the rewards he received thereafter and is observed annually in October around the world.

First Lady Madame Deolatchmie Ramotar

“I extend greetings and best wishes to all Guyanese but especially to the Muslim community celebrating Eid- ul- Adha. Each year when this celebration comes around, I am deeply touched and moved by the numerous acts of generosity and charity shown by our Muslim Brothers and Sisters to those in need. This defining feature of Eid- ul Adha reinforces the conviction that we are social beings and the afflictions of our fellow human beings should affect us all.

On this special occasion of Eid- Ul- Adha may we be reminded of the need to help others to shoulder the burdens and worries caused by misfortune or missteps. And may we reach out to them with the purest of hearts and the noblest of intentions.”

People’s Progressive Party PPP

The Peoples Progressive Party says it recognizes the importance of this sacrifice that symbolizes selflessness and faith and extends greetings to all Guyanese, particularly the Muslim community on this occasion.

The PPP in a statement noted that the occasion is fitting for the Party to reaffirm its call for a national conversation on the need to take back our communities from indiscipline and lack of tolerance. “The message of Eid-Ul-Adha is an example of the discipline and commitment needed, if we are to be successful” the party added in a statement.

Peoples National Congress Reform

Meanwhile the Peoples National Congress Reform PNC/R in a statement reminded of the need to help others to shoulder the burdens and worries caused by misfortune or missteps on this occasion of Eid.

The PNC/R extends greetings to the Muslim Community in Guyana and all Guyanese, on this occasion stating that it recognizes the value of self-denial and the sacrifice of the things they love.

Alliance for Change

Additionally, the AFC says, “The willingness of Ibrahim and Ishmael to obey their creator, their total submission to his will and Allah’s provision of a ram to replace Ishmael of the sacrificial altar, teaches us that there is hope even in the darkest time.”

According to them, life in Guyana has become one of constant sacrifice especially for thousands of poor, ordinary citizens who find it hard to put a meal on the table, to send their children to school, to pay their bills or just to make ends meet.

Indian Arrival Committee

“On this Sacred Observance of Eid-UI-Adha, IAC would like to extend Eid Mubarak to all Guyanese and especially the Muslim Community.

In the spirit of sacrifice, let’s not forget the poor and needy in our community, by sharing the sacrificial offerings with them. Let it be our sincere hope and prayer that we are able to affirm the unity among our peoples and between Islam and other religions.

The message of Eid-UI -Adha is an example of co-existence and cooperation of mutual benefit the world can learn from. This festival incorporates the grate pilgrimage to Mecca or the performance of the Hajj. Over two million pilgrims from the world over, covering all races, economic and social background gather, only for one purpose, humbleness.”
