ECD man chopped to death, father injured in confrontation

Police say they are investigating an alleged Murder committed on Harrinarine Ramawaj, 31, a driver, of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) which occurred about 13:00hrs on Sunday at the said address.

Initial investigations, by the Police, revealed that the Ramawaj and his father, Chanderpaul Ramawaj, 59, went to their cash crop farm which they reportedly operated for over 40 years and saw their banana plants damaged and a wooden structure erected.

It was there that the father and son were greeted by the suspect, a 43 year old labourer of Sawah, Cane Grove, ECD who was in the wooden structure at the time.

According to the Police, the three men got into an argument and physical confrontation which allegedly resulted in Ramawaj and his father receiving several chops about their bodies.

Ramawaj and his father were rushed to a City Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His father was admitted in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, the suspect who was also injured during the confrontation was treated at the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital and is in custody assisting with the investigation.

The body of the deceased is at the Hospital’s Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
