Court[www.inewsguyana.com] – A shoe maker and a vendor were remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for trafficking narcotics.

Keon Gravesande, 26 and Rochelle Accra, 30, both of Lot 28 Holmes Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on March 13 at Cokerite Street, East La Penitence Georgetown, they had in their possession 166 grammes of marijuana.

Accra was also charged separately with having 39 grammes of marijuana at Cokerite Street, Georgetown, on the same day.

Attorney-at-law, Tenasia Daniels represented both Accra and Gravesande and requested bail citing multiple occupancy of the premises, explaining that her clients live with other individuals.

She argued that the substance is not seen as dangerous and has been decriminalized in other jurisdictions.

Bail was refused and the matter was transferred before Magistrate Judy Latchman for April 02.
