According to reports, several farmers have set up mobile pumps that are operated by tractors to pump water from trenches into their fields.

One farmer said the Cozier area is severely affected by the current dry weather and fields with rice in various stages of growth are suffering because of the water problem to irrigate the fields.

The rice crop along the Essequibo Coast is in various stages of growth and harvesting is expected to be in full swing by the end of this month. Some 37,500 acres are expected to be harvested and production is expected to surpass the one million bags set target.
