Drunk Miner who discharged firearm indiscriminately shot during scuffle with police

[www.inewsguyana.com] –  Twenty – Seven – year old Randy Edwards was shot in his back following an altercation with a police officer in Kumaka Waterfront, North West District.

According to the police, at about 23:45h on Saturday night (December 14), the police responded to a report received that a man was at the Kumaka Waterfront, discharging rounds from a firearm and threatening to kill persons.

Upon arrival the policeman, who was armed with his service revolver, saw miner Randy Edwards of Yarakita, NWD, and who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, in a shop armed with an unlicensed shotgun.

The policeman confronted Edwards in efforts to retrieve the firearm and to arrest him, and a struggle ensued between them during which Edwards was shot and injured to his back.

He has been referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital after receiving initial medical treatment at the Mabaruma Hospital. The unlicensed shotgun was recovered by the police as the investigations continue.
