Among those who collected trophies and cash incentives were Richard Hamid (Toyota Corolla AE110) who claimed the top spot in the 15 Second Class while the 14 Seconds Class was taken by Davendra Ramroop and his Nissan Sunny.
The 13 Second event was won by Kevin Bachan with his Toyota Corolla AE100 while Paul Jiwanram held his nerve for a win in his Porsche Boxter in the 12 second class.
The 11 Seconds Class which was through to the finals but not completed due to bad light saw the finalists, agree that the prize money would be split while they both would not collect a trophy.
Additionally, a Fastest Reaction Time (time taken to react to green light) trophy was also given to Mucho Jaggernauth (Toyota Corolla AE91) for reacting in a time of 0.037 seconds while commendations were given to Romaine Henry (Toyota Celica) – 0.039 seconds and Sharima Khan (Toyota Corolla NZE) – 0.077 seconds.
According to an official report from the new sub-committee responsible for drag racing in Guyana, the debut of the time bracket class system which replaced the cubic centimeters (cc) method of classification was met with welcome arms by competitors.
Among some of the other changes to regular drags was the demarcation of a new area of the South Dakota Racing Circuit for Drag Warz, which is originally known as the back stretch of the ‘small’ track with the event run in the easterly direction (backwards).
The committee deicide that this was to give the cars suitable run off area which allowed enough space for cars to safely reduce their speed and as such the strip was marked at 1000 ft.
Among the day’s sponsors were Banks DIH Limited, GT&T, NCN, HJTV, Kaylee’s Service Station, Ramchand’s Wrecker and Trophy Stall.
